FAQs

No appointment is required for x-ray. To minimise waiting times and facilitate necessary patient preparations, an appointment is required for MRI, CT, ultrasound, mammography, screening, biopsies/injections and nuclear medicine scans. Same day appointments are accommodated for all studies, wherever possible. St Vincent’s Clinic Medical Imaging is open on weekends for booked appointments.

Please note that the doors to the St Vincent’s Clinic are closed on weekends and entry to our department is via St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Victoria Street. Please take the elevator up to Level 5, then turn left and follow the signs through to Medical Imaging Reception.

The reception staff at St Vincent’s Private Hospital will be able to assist.

Sydney Imaging Specialists is located on Level 5, St Vincent’s Clinic, at 438 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst, on the corner of Victoria and Oxford Streets, adjacent to St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney and just minutes from the Sydney CBD.

Limited parking is available in the St Vincent’s Clinic car park, accessed via Barcom Avenue at the rear of the building. Please take the first ramp on the left.

There are several bus stops on Oxford Street, within a 2–3-minute walk from St Vincent’s Clinic.

Most of your medical imaging will be performed with your immediate knowledge, following explanations from our staff. There may be circumstances where you are sedated, anaesthetised or unconscious such as when you are in theatre, post-operative recovery ward or ICU, where medical imaging is required. Under these circumstances you may not be aware that medical imaging has been performed. All medical imaging examinations are specifically requested by your doctor as a necessary part of your care. Any fees associated with medical imaging, performed whilst you are an inpatient of St Vincent’s Private Hospital or Day Surgery, are not included in your hospital or day surgery cost estimates or invoices.

You will be provided an outline of medical imaging fees when you are being admitted as a hospital inpatient or day stay patient.

Sydney Imaging Specialists have a no-gap policy on Medicare eligible examinations and procedures for holders of current Australian government pensioner concession cards, Healthcare cards and DVA Gold Cards.

Inpatients not covered by this no-gap policy will receive invoices for the total cost of examinations provided. For Medicare eligible examinations, Medicare and your private health fund will cover a scheduled amount of the total cost. Under these circumstances there will be an out-of-pocket expense payable by you. A more detailed explanation will be provided at the time of admission.

Available methods of payment will be outlined on invoices.

We encourage you to read our preparing for your appointment guides to help you feel informed, comfortable, and ready for your appointment. You will also receive a phone and text message prior to your appointment.  We encourage you to raise any concerns you may have to ensure a smooth and stress -free experience.

One of our specialist radiologists will review your clinical history and interpret your diagnostic imaging. The medical imaging technologist who performs the examination is highly skilled and medically trained, but is not responsible for providing your diagnosis.

The radiologist will review and interpret images to compile a detailed report for your doctor. We recommend that you return to your referring doctor who has comprehensive knowledge of your medical history. Our team will give you a rough guide on when to book your follow up consultation with your referring practitioner. If you would like any additional clinicians to also receive a copy of the report, please advise us with specific clinic details.

Occasionally, the radiologist may consult with you at the end of your examination, if there is a concern that should be addressed or if further imaging is required.

We offer an efficient, secure and environmentally safe way for patients to access imaging results via SIS Patient App. You can view, store and share images and reports securely, via a smartphone, tablet or computer.

After your first appointment with us, you will receive a text inviting you to join SIS Patient. This text will contain a link to activate your account and download the app.

Wintergarden Coffee Shop

The Wintergarden Coffee Shop is located in the foyer of St Vincent’s Clinic. The coffee shop sells food, beverages, newspapers, magazines and confectionery.

The Coffee Shop hours are:

Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays: Closed

Open Support Shop

The Open Support Gift Shop is located in the foyer of St Vincent’s Clinic. It stocks gifts, cards, soft toys religious items and handicrafts. The shop is open Monday – Friday 9.00am – 4.00pm.

Pharmacy

HPS Pharmacies Darlinghurst – St Vincent’s Private Hospital is located in the main foyer of St Vincent’s Private Hospital on Victoria Street.

Billings and fees

Outpatients

Our team will make the submission to Medicare at the time of billing, on your behalf. Private health funds do not provide any cover for outpatient medical imaging services. At the time of making your appointment, a team member will provide you with the total cost of your examination and the amount that you can expect to receive back from Medicare. For most services there will be an out-of-pocket expense.

Payment for services is required at the completion of your examination. For all Medicare eligible examinations, we will submit your Medicare claim for you, at the time of payment.

Please note: Private Health Funds do not pay any money towards outpatient medical imaging services.

Inpatients

In most cases a claim to Medicare and your health fund will be processed by our team. Medicare and your private health fund will send you cheques for any applicable rebates. We request that you forward these cheques and any out-of- pocket expenses to our team. Worker’s Compensation.

There are no Medicare or Health Fund rebates for Workers’ Compensation cases. An account will be issued to the insurer or employer accepting liability for payment of your examination. Workers Compensation approval is required prior to commencing the test. You will be responsible for full payment if Workers’ Compensation approval has not been granted.

Overseas Visitors

Special arrangements are required for inpatient services provided to overseas visitors. Prior to your admission, please contact St Vincent’s Private Hospital Accounts on (02) 8382 7404 or our Accounts staff on (02) 9044 3200.

Outpatients

On completion of your imaging, payment may be made by cash payment, cheque, credit card or eftpos. Following payment we will electronically submit your Medicare rebate claim for you.

Inpatients

Throughout your hospital admission or day stay, invoices will be sent by mail. Payment may be made in person, by phone or via mail. Speak to our accounts team on (02) 9044 3200 or email us account@sydneyimaging.com.au. We accept all cards and eftpos with no surcharge passed on.
